The tomb of our mother Rachel is located close to Jerusalem, only ten minutes walk, yet our mother Rachel remains alone for no Jewish settlement exists alongside her. The Holy One Blessed be He promised Rachel, "Do not cry, your children shall return home," but still she dwells alone. The State of Israel tried to erect a wall around Rachel's Tomb in order to protect the site, and this endeavor also was aborted by the Arabs. The only wall which today surrounds Rachel our mother is that of young students from Mercaz HaRav in Jerusalem, who opened a permanent Beit Midrash for Torah study and prayer at Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem, and are there daily in Rachel's spiritual presence. Every mother and daughter, every father and son, should visit and pray at our mother Rachel's side and safeguard her place of rest. Also, anyone unable to visit our mother Rachel may send his requests by Fax: 02-6540356, and, with the prayers of the students and the study of Torah, it shall aid and strengthen them.

Two full year has passed since the Beit Midrash at Rachel's Tomb was started.
To mark the first anniversary, a public prayer service of "Yom Kippur Katan" was held at the site on the eve of the new month of Adar, followed in the evening by a party celebrating the beginning of Adar. Dozens of students participated and, together with a large gathering of people, heard Chief Rabbi Rav Avraham Shapira shlita speak (Part One/Part Two ). Rav Shapira is Rosh Yeshiva of Mercaz HaRav and heads the Ichud HaRabbanim for Eretz Yisrael. Many of the soldiers stationed at Rachel's Tomb participated in the party, rejoiced and danced with the students until late at night. It is a special merit for every Jew, man and woman, to take part in safeguarding our mother Rachel and praying at her resting place.

"A voice was heard in Rama, lamentation and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children, she refused to be comforted for her children because they are not. Thus says the Lord, keep thy voice from weeping and thy eyes from tears; for thy work shall be rewarded and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. And there is hope for the future, says the Lord, and thy children shall come back again to their own border" (Jeremiah 31, 14-16).

Join us in the making of a "human fortress" around the tomb of our mother Rachel, the Yeshiva by Rachel's Tomb, a branch of Yeshivat Mercaz HaRav Kook in Jerusalem.
